Glass Skin; The Latest Korean Beauty Trend. It is Achievable?

Set to Glow is all about being honest and only promoting things that actually work. My Instagram followers really love my honest reviews. Just recently I wrote about the Korean Skincare products I know and love in Dr Jart+ and Korean SkincareThe post was mainly about the 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine and what products you can use to achieve it. A normal routine in a western country involves a cleanser, exfoliator, hydrating serum, moisturiser and sunscreen. We're not really big on toners. You can see this if you search on google trends in Australia for example. Korean skincare focuses on one issue per step. It's a different approach; however most of the people that commented on my post said they don't really need so many steps and find using too many products annoying. Although; like me, lots of people had favourite Korean products...

Chemical Exfoliants: AHA vs BHA

Do you use a chemical exfoliant? Skip the scrubs. AHAs and BHAs are by far the best way to go. They help to reduce the appearance of lines & wrinkles, help to hydrate the skin and are known to treat acne. Manual exfoliation is dead; use an exfoliating acid as it is the key to more youthful, glowing skin. Read on to find out more!

Australian Beauty Brands

In the interest of trying to support local Australian businesses I am always on the look out for great Australian skincare and cosmetics brands. While I am totally able to list out quite a few skincare and personal care brands I am in love with, I know less about Australian makeup brands. So we're all in the learning boat together!

Being a fan of Organic and Natural products I am going to focus on these for this blog post. You may have read the list of natural products that I use in the Natural Lip Balms: Manuka Honey Benefits post. I mainly use natural products everywhere but my face I find natural and essential oils too heavy and clogging for the sensitive skin on my face.

I love reading about other people’s favourite products. Most of the bloggers I follow have posts every month summarising their monthly finds. I learn so much from these posts. Plus I totally want to buy heaps of stuff.

What I Learnt Using Natural Deodarant and Toothpaste

You may remember my post What is Perioral Dermatitis? and some of my tips on curing this condition. Switching to fluoride free toothpaste was one of the many things I did to help the skin around my mouth. At first I was horrified at the thought, but then I got real and asked a dentist. Switching to natural toothpaste was easy in the end however finding natural deodorant that works was slightly harder. What did I learn during this process? That research counts, amongst other things.

My dermatologist suggested that I change my routine in the bathroom in order to help my perioral dermatitis. The same could be said of other conditions too. Got eczema? Maybe you need to look at everything you use? Do you brush with fluoride toothpaste? Do you use products that contain SLS? Do you wash your hair with something that triggers it? Do you brush your teeth before you wash your face? My dermatologist said that I should brush my teeth before I washed my face. Well I took that one step further. I wondered if I could change my toothpaste altogether and whether that would have an impact?

Your Pedi Health Guide: Dry, Cracked Feet

No matter what I do sometimes my feet are just super dry. We're coming into winter too now, so this is the time to up your pedi care routine. If you have dry, cracked soles read on for my tips to happy feet!

Your feet cop a lot since you walk around on them every day. They support your whole body and I know mine do a lot of extra little tasks that not everyone does. I play a bit of soccer now and again, go to the gym regularly and like to go to kickboxing a couple of times a month... Add the dry weather to this and you have a recipe for dry, cracked feet. I get a pedicure once a month; I do my own manicure to save some money. Sometimes when I go to get my pedicure done I ask my pedicurist to give me a pedi-peel. She uses Pedi-Peel Professional which you can actually buy online - I am not sure what is in this however it peels skin off the bottom of your feet immediately. Coupled with a nice moisturiser, this is a great addition to a spa pedicure.

Natural Lip Balms: Manuka Honey Benefits

I am eager to get behind as many natural Australian brands as I can. So when I was given the full range of Clean & Pure Lip Balms to try that feature Olive Oil, I jumped at the chance. My favourite Clean & Pure Lip Balm is the Manuka Honey variant. This got me interested in Manuka Honey and Manuka Honey benefits.

I am pretty obsessed with lip balm. I mentioned in my last post Lip Prep for the Perfect Lipstick Base: Sugar Lip Scrub that I have far too many to count. I feel like I can never have enough though, because I love that I can reach into any jacket, coat or bag and find the perfect lip balm. I am not alone in my lip balm obsession, when Lip Smacker announced that a fan could submit their dream lip balm flavour including the hashtag #LStastemaker and become the #1 Tastemaker, there were a number of suggestions. My favourite flavour suggested so far is unicorn flavour - and the lip balm would look like one of those marshmallow swirl lollies. Like the unicorn toast that has been on Instagram lately!!

Lip Prep for the Perfect Lipstick Base: Sugar Lip Scrub

If I am really honest, I have far too many lip balms and not enough lipstick. That is because I probably don't wear lipstick very often. However, I do exfoliate my lips quite a bit. Lip exfoliation is the perfect way to prepare a good base for your favourite lipstick. What is my routine for prepping my lips? I have a few tricks to share of course!

I have been trying a lot of new Korean products lately and I recently spotted a cool little product called Collagen Nourish Lips Membrane on another blog that I wanted to incorporate into my lip prep routine. This blog post will be the perfect time to try it. I will be writing a blog post on some other Korean beauty products too soon. I often order from amazon.com and use hopshopgo to deliver the packages to Australia. The prices are just so much cheaper on amazon and they also stock a lot more things that other websites - which is very convenient.

Winding Down: Stress and Your Skin

I have been a bit down lately as well as worried because my cat is still unwell. We all go through tough periods in our lives which cause stress and anxiety. I know when I go through extended periods of stress, my skin starts misbehaving. I get a few extra pimples, and I am more prone to my eczema flaring up. The best thing I found I can do for myself is to try to wind down and relax.

Unfortunately for us, there is a clear link between stress and acne. Acne severity correlates highly with increasing stress and the cells that produce sebum have receptors for stress hormones. We all know that sebum is the oily substance that mixes with dead skin cells and bacteria to clog the hair follicles, leading to a pimple or acne cyst. I don't know about you, but rather than wait for stress pimples to rear their ugly heads, I try to prevent stress from taking over. I make sure I do a few good things for myself each day in order to promote good mental health all the time.

Tips and Tricks: Clarisonics are too Harsh for Me!

I am a sucker for new things, I have a Scholl Pedi Electronic Foot File plus I also have a Parlux hair dryer. So when 2004 came along and the Clarisonic face brush was introduced, I wanted to try one. I did lots of research online and in stores when they hit Australia and I finally decided to get one at David Jones since they have a great return policy. I love the feeling you get when you pull something out of the box that you feel will change your life. It doesn't happen often, let's face it, we don't really NEED much to get by day to day. It also seems to happy less, because some products don't live up to the hype.

What is Perioral Dermatitis?

In The Link Between Diet and Skin Health I mentioned I had a condition called perioral dermatitis. In the following blog post I will discuss the various products that helped me cure my condition, valuable tips that helped me win the battle over my scaly patches, and the order I do things in the bathroom (YES REALLY)...

What is Perioral Dermatits?

Perioral Dermatitis is pretty common amongst females ages 15-45 years. It is characterised by groups of itchy or tender small red papules around your mouth, nose and eyes and it often gets wrongly diagnosed. When I went to see various doctors, before seeing a dermatologist, they suggested pimples, rosacea, eczema, a rash, and psoriasis. Luckily I only had it around my chin, because people often have it around the eyes and nose as well. Perioral Dermatitis is pretty stubborn and I have learnt lots of tricks to deal with it. I won't lie though. It is not going to go away overnight.
