If you have been reading Set to Glow for a while; you will be aware of my love for natural products. I use natural shampoo & conditioner, natural deodorant, 5 free/vegan/cruelty-free nail polish, natural lip balm & Burt's Bees lipsticks, natural hand cream and hand soap. I also use natural cleaning products around the house. Although I love all these things, there are a few things that I love that I can't replace with natural products. However; since I received some Luk Nip Nourish in beautiful new packaging, I set myself a challenge. To compare natural and toxin-free products with the original formulas that I love and felt like I couldn't get rid of. So which one wins my heart? Read on to find out...
I have seen a few blog posts on Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash just recently and I was reminded of the powder cleansers I see in Japan. For any of you that don't know, I have been learning to speak Japanese for 5 years. It's really quite difficult; however I love the culture, the food and the beauty products. I stock up every time I go to Japan. If I run out, there are a few places in Sydney to visit to stock up again. This post is about the Japanese skincare and cosmetics that I love and how I love to visit Daiso in Wynyard, Sydney CBD. Read on...
There are a lot of factors involved when you choose skincare and cosmetics. I am pretty sure, for most of us, our choices are based on emotional reasons for purchasing as well as the effectiveness of the product. The age old question of drug store buys vs luxury products is a complex one. We have so many choices today and the beauty industry keeps growing rapidly with new and innovative products. Can you build a routine on drug store buys alone? Read on...
I am a BIG believer in only using products that work. So for skincare that means using active products. Let's face it; nothing works quite as well as preventative botox for wrinkles... However, using eye patches in the Aeroplane whilst travelling to London Fashion Week, Russia and Japan I am hooked. They are cooling, soothing and hydrating especially in the plane and the morning after you return back home. With this in mind I decided to try a few eye patches and compare them. Which one will be my winner for 2017 - it's the perfect time for a good eye treatment since we go into the festive season!
Set to Glow is all about being honest and only promoting things that actually work. My Instagram followers really love my honest reviews. Just recently I wrote about the Korean Skincare products I know and love in Dr Jart+ and Korean Skincare. The post was mainly about the 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine and what products you can use to achieve it. A normal routine in a western country involves a cleanser, exfoliator, hydrating serum, moisturiser and sunscreen. We're not really big on toners. You can see this if you search on google trends in Australia for example. Korean skincare focuses on one issue per step. It's a different approach; however most of the people that commented on my post said they don't really need so many steps and find using too many products annoying. Although; like me, lots of people had favourite Korean products...
Do you make sure you clean your skincare and cosmetics out regularly? Do you pay attention to the expiry dates? Are they actually legitimate dates or can we extend some of them? These are all really interesting questions. Especially since there have been trends towards more organic and cruelty free products. There are also products with short shelf lives called skin food. Products made from ingredients you can actually eat.
A lot of travel skincare guides just outline some great products that you need to take with you. One thing a lot of sites agree on is that less is more. Well that sort of goes for packing in general right. You want to pack your bags with tops, skirts and dresses that you can pair together in lots of ways to maximise your outfit possibilities from the least amount of clothes. You need to streamline your skincare routine and only take the things with you that are absolutely necessary. I totally agree with that. It's just that people with allergies and sensitive skin need a few more things that aren't really discussed.
Korean Skincare is a bit of a viral trend at the moment. Myer has a special section dedicated to it in their Sydney, CBD store and there is even a shop under Myer called BONIIK where you can buy lots of Korean skincare brands. Korean products are super hydrating and mostly fragrance free and people like me (with sensitive skin) love them. The sheet masks that come out of Korea are quite amazing and lots of western brands are trying to piggy back on the trend and release new and interesting things. The korean skincare routine is 10 steps long! But do you need all those product? Read on for my opinion on the subject...
I have a red nail polish obsession; it's not a secret. Over the years I have changed the colour a few times but I really love my polished nails. I feel more together with them painted. When I used to pole dance in competitions, I used to break my thumbnails quite far up the nail. So I had to get two acrylic nails to strengthen my thumbnails. I decided to learn how to do acrylics myself to save some cash. Now it's just me and my red polished nails. But how do I look after them? Read on to find out...

When I was about 14, I started dressing in black and listening to metal, industrial and gothic music. My uniform included a lot of black makeup and false eyelashes. I have also been a burlesque performer and competed in pole dancing competitions in Sydney. I am used to applying false lashes, even if I am a bit out of practice. I have also gotten quite a few pairs of eyelash extensions too. Facebook advertising lead me to One Two Cosmetics Magnetic Lashes. Are they worth all the hype? Read on...
